Rastafarianism, also known as Rastafarianism, is a black Christian religious movement and social movement that emerged in Jamaica in the 1930s. There is no central leader in this movement, and there are very diverse interpretations among believers.
The movement embraces monotheism, referring to a single God called "Jah" (short for Yahweh), who exists in every individual. Many believers consider Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I (1930-1974) to be God's modern-day reincarnation, the Messiah prophesied in the Bible, while others venerate him as a prophet to mankind. Therefore, the name Ras Tafari refers to Haile Selassie, where Ras means "leader" in Amharic, and Tafari is the name Haile Selassie used before he came to the throne.
Rastafarians call their practice life force practice, which aims to preserve and transmit the life force endowed by God to all people and even all living beings. In Rastafarian teachings, life force can be enhanced through acts of love for others, prayer and (after marijuana) meditation, the Ital diet (all natural diet).
Vitality practice emphasizes a natural way of life, such as eating only natural foods, growing hair naturally, etc. The gathering of believers is called "groundation", during which they play music, sing, discuss, and smoke marijuana. Rastafa believes that smoking marijuana is a beneficial and sacred act.
